Lesia Dychko
Bio
Lesya Dychko was born in Kyiv, Ukraine. She started learning music at a very young age. Dychko attended the eight-year music school No. 2 and later continued her music education at the Kyiv Lysenko State Music Lyceum. Her Concerto for Piano and Orchestra was finished before graduating, demonstrating her exceptional talent. In 1964, Lesya Dychko graduated from the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, where she studied under Kostyantyn Dankevych and Borys Lyatoshynsky. After graduating, she continued her postgraduate studies with Borys Lyatoshynsky at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine and Nikolai Peiko at the Moscow Conservatory. Upon completing her studies, she worked as a composer at the Kyiv Pedagogical Institute (1965 to 1966) and the Kyiv Arts Academy (1972-1994). Since 1994 Dychko has been at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, where she became a professor in 2009. Dychko works in diverse genres, including oratorio, cantata, piano, opera, ballet, and chamber music. Works of Lesya Dychko have been influenced by national folklore, and
in the 1960s, she was associated with a group of composers known as the “New Folklore Wave”.
